The Unsung Fashion Heroes of Obscure 80s Movies..

This month's Nylon featured Mary Stuart Masteron's character on 90210 as an obscure favorite of the staffs'. This reminded me of her character in John Hughes' Some Kind of Wonderful - a role reversal replica of his bigger hit Pretty In Pink in which she plays Watts, the female Duckie to Eric Stolz's Andie. Anyway, the movie was kinda lame but her fashion sense was pretty on point - in a tortured soul, rebellious grunge chick/best friend whose femininity goes unnoticed until the very end kinda way.

Another favorite fashion forward lady from the 80s was Helen Hunts' character in Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. SJP may have been the main character, but HH really stole the show. Her character Lynne's fashion sense was bananas! Rubber dinosaurs converted into hair clips, insanely coiffed hair, velcro outfits - a true original (even by the 80s standards)

P.S. I've totes always wanted to be the person who gets to come up with the Flashback person for this particular Nylon feature.
